What's on a card

Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

  • Stress marks on every word: уже́, хорошо́, говори́ть
  • Audio for the word and for the sentence
  • The forms you need: хочу́ / хо́чешь, лю́ди as the plural of челове́к
  • Aspect pairs together on one card: говори́ть / сказа́ть
  • One short, natural sentence, the kind you'd hear in a show
  • A usage note where it helps: что is said “што”

Hear a card

хоте́ть

to want

Russian doesn't print stress marks, so most learners guess for years. On these cards you never have to.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is it really free?

Yes. No sign-up and no email: download the file and open it in Anki. It's licensed CC BY-SA 4.0, so you can share it, remix it and translate it, as long as you credit LangLeap and keep the same license.

Where does the 53% come from?

We counted every word in the OpenSubtitles 2018 Russian corpus, grouped the forms of each word together (хочу́ and хо́чешь both count as хоте́ть), and ranked them. The top 100 words make up 53.1% of all the words in that film and TV dialogue. That's a share of the words you hear, not a share of the meaning, but it's why these are the first 100 to learn.

Which version should I get?

Start with Top 100 if you want to learn the words fast. Get Top 100 + Forms if you want to drill every conjugation and ending too. You can import the full version later without losing your progress.
